Fake KDF Job Promise Ends in Arrest: Police Recruit Busted in Sh687,000 Recruitment Scam

Feb 9, 2026

A police recruit constable is cooling his heels in custody after detectives exposed an elaborate employment scam that conned an unsuspecting Kenyan out of nearly Sh700,000, using the lure of a fake Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) job.

Detectives from Kayole Police Station on Monday arrested Kipkoech Isaac, a Police Recruit Constable, accused of masterminding a slick con that preyed on desperation and hope for secure government employment. According to investigators, the suspect promised to deliver an official KDF employment letter—for a steep price.

The scam dates back to November 12, 2025, when Kipkoech allegedly convinced his victim that he had powerful connections within the military recruitment system. For Sh700,000, he assured the complainant, a genuine KDF appointment letter would be issued. Believing this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the victim handed over Sh687,000.

That marked the beginning of the nightmare.

Soon after receiving the money, the suspect reportedly went underground. His phone went silent, messages unanswered, and the promised job letter never materialised—leaving behind dashed hopes, financial loss, and a sense of betrayal.

Following a formal complaint, detectives launched a manhunt, tracking Kipkoech to the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus, where he was eventually arrested. He is currently in custody undergoing processing and is expected to be arraigned in court to face fraud-related charges.

The arrest has once again put the spotlight on rampant fake recruitment scams exploiting the allure of jobs in disciplined forces, including the KDF and National Police Service.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant, stressing that recruitment into government security agencies is free and strictly merit-based. Any demand for payment is a red flag.
