Murder suspect Ann Adhiambo Akinyi was yesterday successfully located and arrested by homicide detectives of DCI while hiding within the Kibera slums of Nairobi after days of intensive manhunt.

Adhiambo’s capture was made possible through the collaborative efforts of dedicated detectives and valuable information provided by local residents, ultimately leading to the discovery of her hideout.

The suspect is aged 16 and not 26 as a section of the media purported. She now stands accused of fleeing the murder scene after the fatal stabbing of Eric Maigo, which resulted in his tragic demise at his residence in Woodley Estate, Kilimani.

Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect confessed to causing Eric Maigo’s death but offered a plea of self-defense.

Ann Adhiambo emphatically stated that her actions were driven by Eric Maigo’s alleged defilement of her, leading her to resort to self-defense measures, including the multiple stabbings.

According to the girl’s statement to detectives, the events transpired on that fateful day after she had been forcibly removed from her guardian’s home due to a family dispute.

It was in this vulnerable state that Eric Maigo encountered her and invited her into his house.

Detectives have indicated that the suspect will undergo both mental and age assessments to determine her suitability for court proceedings.

Meanwhile police are investigating the cause of healing injuries on her abdomen which could be remnants of a harrowing fall from a razor-wire fence at the crime scene.

On the fateful morning of September 15, 2023,  Eric Maigo, the acting Finance Director at Nairobi Hospital was fatally stabbed at his residence in the Woodley Annex Estate. The gruesome crime scene unveiled disturbing evidence, including a bucket of vomit, multiple wine bottles, and two blood-stained knives, intensifying the enigma surrounding his untimely demise

Ann Adhiambo will remain in custody for a period of 21 days as investigations into the case continue. A court hearing is scheduled for October 18th.
