Speculation Rife on Why Former Migori First Lady Keeping Low Profile

From the time she declared her bid for Migori County Women Representative position, Hellen Obado’s candidature received serious opposition from the word go.

After all, her husband Okoth Obado seemed to have planted a bad seed in the region during his time as Migori County Governor. In all fairness, Obado could be one of the most controversial politicians ever in the history of Nyanza.

In 2013, at the time no one gave him a chance to become Governor, Obado pulled a shocker to win the seat. He would go on to easily clinch the seat in 2017 for his second straight term in office.

But throughout his political journey, Obado’s relationship with ODM party leader Raila Odinga has been frosty. This explains why he has never really established himself in Nyanza region politics.

In 2022, he was one of the people from the region who went against the grain to back William Ruto’s presidential bid. This would end up dimming his own political ambitions as he lost in his quest for Migori County senator position on a UDA party ticket.

As the family chased multiple political goals, Obado’s wife, Hellen Obado, joined the race for Migori County Women Representative position. Though she was running as an independent candidate, she backed Azimio la Umoja coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga as her husband decided to stick with Dr Ruto to the bitter end. The end result? They both lost.

Though the former Governor has managed to remain politically active, his wife has taken a very low political profile. Her prolonged absence from the scene has sparked speculations on her whereabouts and real political game plan going forward.
