Gem MP Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo Akuba has sent a message of goodwill to residents of Siaya County and beyond on the auspicious occasion marking the 60th Jamhuri Day Anniversary.
Below is the complete unabridged text of the legislators message:
“As Kenya marks the 60th Jamhuri Day anniversary, we are reminded of the day Kenya became independent. But what does independence really mean if our people remain uneducated, hungry and poor? Are these not what the first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta declared “enemies of state”?
Discourse may rage on as to the extent to which independence of mind and will contribute to resolving social problems that continue to bedevil Kenyans from all walks of life.
In a recent photo posted is social media spaces, The Governor of Siaya, James Orengo, was reported to have joined President Ruto in India, for what is said to be an official Head of State visit to that country. As Social media pundits continue to argue for and against the need for Nyanza leaders to work in collaboration with the Government of the day, it is becoming pretty obvious that critical elements of development will only be realised when National Government and its agencies are supported in delivering their mandate in the region.
Areas such as Ugenya, Gem, Bondo and Langata continue to achieve big milestones and it is expected that their 5 year score-card will be testimony to the benefits of collaborative rather than combative politics.
Lets celebrate this day, as leaders who have embraced independence of mind, and embraced new thinking as a tool to solve age-old problems, herein referred to as “enemies of state”.
Long Live the Residents of Gem Constituency. Long Live the Residents of Siaya and the whole of Kenya.”
Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo Akuba (MP)
