Mutahi Kagwe was Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary during the tough phase when the country was grappling with a global pandemic, COVID-19.

Mr Kagwe would not only liaise with other line ministries to bring daily updates but also was so passionate about his office that he kept himself abreast of the pandemic through constant study.

Like many other public figures who delivered through high-octane pressure, he developed a love for the tipple and would sometimes be caught off guard in his popular joint. That notwithstanding Kenyans will for a long time remember Mutahi Kagwe”s favourite phrase abnomari (abnormally).

Dr. Frederick Okengo Matian’gi. He strode the Executive scene as a Colossus rooted and firmed in his credible qualifications as an IT expert. When he was given the docket of Education, Matian’gi revolutionised policy laying the grounds for his successor Prof George Mogoha.

It was not surprising that President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta should elevate and assign Matian’gi an oversight role over his cabinet. In the pecking order, during Uhuru’s last days, Matian’gi was more powerful than then Deputy President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.

Before these there was John Michuki, Charles Mugane Njonjo, Hezekiah Oyugi and Nicholas Kiprono arap Biwott; all these wielded exceptional authority and left their indelible mark in the ministries they served.
