A team led by Evelyn Egesa aka Nyakobura on Monday donated KES 50,000 to Kibos Women Community Based Organisation.

The team represented Nairobi lawyer Fred Odumo Nying’uro at a Harambee organized by the women CBO at Enigma Resort in Kisumu East sub-County.

The Kibos Women CBO is one of the groups in Kisumu County which have come out to economically empower women in the region and improve their state of living.

Women and girls in the region experience challenges when it comes to starting up businesses and creating employment due to a lack of resources and appropriate information.

Madam Evelyn Egesa said Wakili intended to work with women and young girls to train them with skills in the management of businesses and resources that are available to them.

She further said they were supporting women by strengthening their capacity to enable them to access funds in partnership with other organizations and institutions.

“In Kisumu, we realized women are not financially empowered so we not only give them skills for entrepreneurship, but also a chance to access funds,” said Nyakobura, adding “Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro has decided not to pay lip service to your plight but today donates this small amount to boost your table-banking kitty.”

Nyakobura disclosed that Wakili is keen on working with groups which focus on climate change projects and advocated for Kisumu Women groups to come up with ways to counter climate issues and promised to support them by giving them funds to carry out these projects.

“We have supported groups like Nyahera Briquette women group who make charcoal out of waste which is getting a good reception. We have also supported other groups from Manyatta estate who have ventured into locally making soap,” she said.

Nyakobura urged the women not to depend on donor support but to utilize the funds in their table-banking kitty to empower one another and aspire for economic independence.

Kibos Women CBO has a total membership of 150 ranging from diverse age groups.

Team Nying’uro assured attendees at the Enigma Resort that the doors of Wakili Fred Odumo Nying’uro will always be open whenever they need guidance on legal advice or financial support.
