Sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday morning nabbed a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer who was demanding a bribe from a victim of M-Pesa fraudsters.
EACC pounced on Luke Nyasangah, a DCI Officer based at Ngano Police Station, Nyandaraua County, as he allegedly asked for a Ksh.10000 bribe to help the said victim.
The victim had lost KES 115,000 to the fraudsters, and when he reported the matter to Nyasangah, the DCI officer is said to have demanded the said bribe to help recover the lost money.
EACC was alerted of the development and laid ambush on Nyasangah, who was allegedly found demanding for the bribe to proceed with investigations.
Nyasangah told the complainant that the bribe was mandatory to facilitate tracking of the fraudsters.
The suspect has been put under custody at Charagita Police Post pending further processing.
The arrest is part of the efforts by the ethics body to end bribery and corruption in the country, especially among those in authority like the police.
