Amidst threats of a colossal downpour, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Amollo Odinga this afternoon launched a countrywide membership recruitment drive at his home bastion of Siaya.
Earlier on the former Premier had attended a function in Kisumu that was also marred by rainfall.
“ODM’s recruitment drive is in full swing,” said Raila Odinga, adding “We launched it this afternoon in Siaya County, and the initiative is now extending to all counties across Kenya.”
No matter how much critics would want to downplay Raila’s influence in the political landscape he remains a force to reckon with, especially in his home county of Siaya.
Last week President Dr William Samoei Ruto announced a similar recruitment drive for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party which is said by some statistics to have registered upwards of 7 million members.
Flanked by Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo and other ODM Party leaders from across the country Raila received a raucous welcome from residents of Siaya who braved the bad weather to hear what Baba had to say.
Present were Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, his Rarieda counterpart Otiende Amollo, Siaya Township Ward MCA James Obiero Otare and other ODM Party leaders.
It was also a moment for the embattled Siaya Governor James Orengo to bask in glory following very negative publicity recently.
