The Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association (KIFWA) and its partners has today announced the national rollout of the Digital Marine Cargo Insurance (DMCI) Platform ahead of the commencement of mandatory Marine Cargo Insurance requirements on 1 July 2026.
This announcement is from a strategic partnership with select Insurance companies and powered by technology providers. The insurance companies are APA General Insurance Company, Britam General Insurance, CIC General Insurance, Old Mutual General Insurance, Pacis Insurance, Dynamique, and eCitizen.
The platform provides a seamless, secure and fully compliant digital solution for obtaining Marine Cargo Insurance certificates through an integrated ecosystem linked to payment gateways provided by E-citizen, KRA ICMS, M-Pesa, participating banking institutions and relevant regulatory bodies.

Developed through a strategic partnership between KIFWA and its insurance partners, the Digital Marine Cargo Insurance Platform is designed to simplify compliance while enhancing efficiency, transparency and service delivery for importers, clearing and forwarding agents, and the wider logistics industry.
Ongoing Nationwide Sensitization and Training
In preparation for implementation, KIFWA and its partners have successfully conducted sensitisation and training programmes for members and industry stakeholders in Nairobi, Mombasa, Malaba, Busia, Namanga and Isebania.
To ensure continued support during the transition, these training sessions will continue over the next 12 months, providing members with practical guidance on:
* Accessing the Digital Marine Cargo Insurance Platform.
* End-to-end certificate issuance.
* Premium payment through the available payment channels.
* Integration with customs clearance procedures.
* Claims reporting and customer support.
KIFWA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members throughout the implementation period through continuous training, technical assistance and close collaboration with its insurance partners to ensure a smooth transition to the new digital marine cargo insurance framework.
All KIFWA members are encouraged to leverage the ongoing training programme and adopt the Digital Marine Cargo Insurance Platform to facilitate uninterrupted cargo clearance and in line with the mandatory Marine Cargo Insurance requirements effective 1 July 2026.
