Hundreds of learners and residents in Embu County are set to benefit from improved digital education after the Stanbic Kenya Foundation unveiled a modern Digital Learning Centre at ACK Kiamuringa School, complete with a donation of 30 computers to establish the institution’s first fully equipped ICT laboratory.
The landmark project is expected to transform learning for more than 200 students and 23 teachers, while also serving as a community digital hub where local youth and residents can access computer training, online learning, and digital job opportunities outside school hours.
The initiative marks a major milestone in the Foundation’s mission to bridge Kenya’s digital divide by expanding access to technology and equipping young people with skills needed to thrive in the modern economy.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Stanbic Kenya Foundation Head Mercy Githanji said digital literacy has become an essential skill for education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
“At Stanbic Kenya Foundation, we believe digital literacy is no longer optional but a fundamental requirement for success in the 21st century. Our investment in ACK Kiamuringa School is an investment in the future of Embu County. By providing this ICT laboratory, we are enriching classroom learning, supporting teachers and opening opportunities for the wider community to participate in the digital economy,” she said.
Beyond classroom learning, the ICT laboratory will operate as a shared community resource, enabling young people to gain practical digital skills, prepare for online employment, and access emerging economic opportunities driven by technology.
The project aligns with Stanbic Bank Kenya’s corporate social investment strategy, which focuses on education, entrepreneurship and job creation under its national purpose, “Kenya is our home, we drive her growth.” Through partnerships with schools and community institutions, the Foundation aims to democratize access to digital technology while promoting inclusive economic development.
ACK Kiamuringa School Principal Joseph Mwaniki described the donation as a game-changing investment for both the school and the surrounding community.
“This is a historic day for our school. Previously, our students had very limited opportunities for practical computer lessons. This modern ICT laboratory will strengthen STEM education, prepare learners for a digital future, and equip our teachers with modern teaching tools. By opening the facility to local youth, our school also becomes a centre for community empowerment and economic opportunity,” he said.
The latest investment builds on the Foundation’s broader digital inclusion agenda. Since 2021, Stanbic Kenya Foundation has partnered with various organizations to equip women, youth and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with critical digital skills through its Future ni Digital programme.
Since 2019, the initiative has enabled more than 250,000 Kenyans to access training in basic, intermediate and advanced digital competencies, helping improve employability, entrepreneurship and business growth.
By investing in digital infrastructure at the grassroots, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation continues to support the Government of Kenya’s Digital Master Plan, which seeks to expand digital literacy, establish community technology hubs and create new pathways for innovation, employment and inclusive economic growth across the country.
